SNAP! HISTORY
Snap! first started in 1989 when producers Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti first encountered each other at a recording studio in Germany. Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti used their talents to pioneer a revolutionary style of dance music.
Combining the producer’s talent with the vocalist Penny Ford, pedestrian rapper Turbo B. and distinct-sounding rapper Jackie Harris, Snap! released their debut single. This was entitled ‘The Power’ and it was released in 1990.
‘The Power’ instantly took the charts by storm and set up a great basis for the success of their debut album - ‘World Power’. This sold a whopping 7 million copies making it one of the most successful dance albums ever.
Shortly after this, in 1991 Jackie Harris left the group and was replaced by Penny Ford.
In 1992, Snap’s real breakthrough was achieved with their second album which was entitled ‘The Madman's Return’. This album welcomed the show-stopping hit ‘Rhythm Is a Dancer’ which later dominated the charts globally. Other hits on this album included ‘Ooops Up’ and ‘Mary Had a Little Boy’. These three songs were the ticket to Snap’s global success.
Shortly after the release of this album, Turbo B. left the group and was replaced by Nikki Harris.
Snap! continued to release bangers throughout the rest of the 90s going into the early 2000s, showing that Snap! knew how to appease their loyal and new fans alike.
In 1994, Snap! Released their third album entitled ‘Welcome to Tomorrow’ which was a trance-influenced album, capturing the attention of many fans.
After this, the band released songs with various other artists whom they collaborated with including Nancy Sinatra, Todd Terry, and Summer.
In 1996 Snap! disbanded, yet they still gave fans a highly anticipated hits compilation entitled ‘Snap! Attack: The Best of Snap!’.
Luckily for fans, Snap! made an unexpected return in 2000 with the single ‘Gimme A Thrill’, a rap with Turbo B. and the band’s new addition, Maxayn.
Snap’s tunes are still enjoyed by millions of fans in clubs around the world, a true testament to their musical talent.
