GO WEST'S BIGGEST HITS

Go West has a plethora of top hits, which is a great show of their musical talent. These hits include 'We Close Our Eyes' which was released in the Spring of 1985.

This hit reached number 5 in the UK charts and also became a global hit, reaching the top 10 in the USA. Other notable singles include 'Call Me'.

Their strengths weren’t only in creating show-stopping singles either. The album 'Go West’ sold 1.5 million copies worldwide whilst also staying in the UK chart for 83 whole weeks.

Producing hit after hit, it’s clear that Go West are one of the best songwriting duos from the 80s.

Another vastly popular album of Go West’s is 'Indian Summer'. Released in 1992, this album only solidified Go West’s genre of ‘modern Motown’ music, originally posited by the legendary producer Arif Mardin.

This album featured the single 'King Of Wishful Thinking' which was the opening song in the blockbuster 'Pretty Woman'. Through this film feature, it became clear that Go West’s music was showstopping stuff, perfect for the big screen. After all, the ‘King of Wishful Thinking’ boasted an impressive addition to the soundtrack which sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

GO WEST'S HISTORY

Peter Cox and Richard Drummie first met in 1974. They were initially with a publishing deal ‘Cox and Drummie’. However, they struggled to get their music to go north under this record label. Later, with assistance from John Glover, their manager, Go West recorded their first two singles ‘We Close Our Eyes’ and ‘Call Me’.

Shortly after recording these singles, ‘Cox and Drummie’ were renamed as ‘Go West’ and they landed a deal with Chrysalis Records. After this deal, Go West released ‘We Close Our Eyes’ in the Spring of 1985, becoming both a top ten hit in the UK and the USA. They also scored 3 more UK top 10 hits with ‘Call Me’, ‘Goodbye Girl’ and ‘Don’t Look Down’.

After these singles, Go West released the vastly popular album ‘Go West’. Later, their second album, entitled ‘Dancing on the Couch’ was released in 1987. This included various top 30 hits such as ‘True Colours’, ‘I Want To Hear It From You’ and ‘The King Is Dead’.

In 1992 their legendary album ‘Indian Summer’ was released, which included the aforementioned hit ‘King Of Wishful Thinking.

Their next album, ‘Aces and Kings’, was released in 1993, which was a greatest hits collection for the unreleased single ‘Tracks Of My Tears’. This was a take on Smokey Robinson’s Motown classic - and this single made it to the top 20 in the UK.
Ultimately, in 1994, Peter Cox went solo and in 1997 his album ‘Peter Cox’ was released. Within this time, Richard made a recording studio to focus on songwriting and record production.

In April 2001, ‘The Best of Go West – Live at the NEC’ was released. This album was a concert recorded in their 1993 tour. This album included the well-known and loved songs of Go West, amongst an addition of two new tracks. Later in 2001, Go West performed with the ‘Here & Now’ arena tours which took place in the UK and Australia with Paul Young, Kim Wilde and other superstars.

After this tour, Peter took part in the TV series ‘Reborn In The USA’ in which he found great success. Therefore Go West and Tony Hadley went on a 60-date UK tour across the entirety of 2004. Shortly after this, in 2005 Go West celebrated their 20th anniversary and another UK tour.

After undertaking another headliner tour in 2008 in Australia, in the autumn Go West released their first album since 1992 - ‘futurenow’. This album solidified that even after a decade, Go West’s popularity certainly wasn’t heading south.
