Rocking up to Butlin's in 2021
Taking the very best anthems from the West End and Broadway’s Rock musicals, our brand new show Musicals Rock requires you to get your air guitars and rock hands ready! With an amazing cast of dancers and vocalists, exciting visuals and authentic costumes, it'll take you on a thrilling journey of up-tempo anthems from the 80s to modern day, from hit shows including School Of Rock, Bat Out Of Hell, We Will Rock You, Tina, A Star is Born and Rock of Ages.
Rocking up to Butlin's for breaks in 2021, we want you to be as excited about Musicals Rock as we are, so we caught up with the Co-Producer and Director to find out more about what's involved in the show and why you must go and see it...
1. Hi Jo, tell us a little bit about yourself...
Hi, my name is Jo Godolphin and I'm the Co-Producer and Director of Musicals Rock. My career has spanned both performing and producing, and my performance highlights include four years onboard cruise ships as principal vocalist, multiple musical tours including performances at the Royal Albert Hall, a stint in Monte Carlo, and more recently touring with Symphonic Ibiza. My production career has allowed me to produce shows for cruise ships, UK and overseas venues, and most enjoyably at Butlin's. Musicals Rock will be the 24th show I have been lucky enough to be involved with for Butlin's!
2. What can our guests expect from Musicals Rock?
They can expect to hear a very recognisable playlist, even if musicals aren't necessarily 'their thing', with music that will have them on their feet with their air guitars at the ready! They will see and hear our very talented cast of vocalists and dancers, along with powerful visuals and pyrotechnics.
3. Give us three words that best describe Musicals Rock...
Uplifting, anthemic, thrilling!
4. What’s your favourite thing about the show?
I won't spoil anything but there's a real WOW moment involving a huge motorbike that will feature in our Bat Out of Hell section...
5. When you started creating the show, what most stood out to you?
What stood out for me whilst first creating the show is that you don’t have to just be a ‘musicals fan' to watch and enjoy the show; there are so many songs and covers that will be recognised by a wide age group.
6. What influenced the set design and costumes?
Having so many sections in the show, we had to make the set quite generic so we settled on a rustic, corrugated iron/steel look to give it that rocky feel. Many parts of the set are movable so we can create different looks and feels throughout the show. The costumes were influenced by watching and studying the musicals and songs that make up the playlist... they're brilliant!
