The fun starts the moment you enter the Ocean Hotel's white lobby. Fish, light-projected onto the floor, slip away when a child tries to catch them. As you enter the lift, I defy anyone – adult or child – not to start jiggling to Dancing Queen while blue disco lights cast a flatteringly dark light onto the mirrors. "I want to go up and down all day," said my 10 year-old, George.

If you've been to Butlins, this is going to come as bit of a shock.

With its bright white exterior and futuristic design, the new £20million Ocean Hotel at the Bognor Regis resort has given the holiday chain's hi-de-hi image the old heave-ho - and made the jump into the 21st century.

Butlins may have struck gold with the Ocean Hotel’s luxurious accommodation and spa experience.

It’s a British institution, famous for its all-singing, all-dancing Redcoats and cheesy evening entertainment but Butlins is probably the last place on earth you'd think to go for a spa break. Until now.

The nation's favourite cheap and cheerful holiday resort may have battled with an image problem in the past but new investment is hoping to put Butlins firmly on the pampering map.

On the launch day of the Spa a few of us lovely bloggers (and children and buggies and balloons) did a tour of the hotel and we then visited the Spa.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but actually, to be honest, I’d imagined the usual spa set up. My preconceptions were blown out of the water during the tour.
